Absence from School

School absences other than illness should be kept to a minimum.  In particular the law states that parents/carers do not have any right or entitlement to take a child out of school for a term-time holiday.  The regulations do state that in certain circumstances headteachers may grant up to 10 school days leave in a year for the purpose of an annual family holiday but parents/carers should not expect such leave to be granted as of right.  Each request for term-time leave will be considered on an individual basis.  When making a decision we will look very carefully at your child’s previous attendance record.

Procedure for requesting term-time absence

  • A term-time absence request form should be collected from the office and completed.  The specific reasons why the absence is being requested should be outlined.  This form should be returned to the office at least two weeks before the proposed absence is due to begin.
  • Once your request has been assessed you will then receive a response form from the office informing you whether or not the absence can be authorised.
