Year 5 Maths Challenge

Year 5 Maths Challenge

On Wednesday 26th April, four Year 5 Mathematicians headed to St. Luke's Primary School to take part in Heat 3 of the Year 5 Cambridgeshire Mathematics Challenge.

During the challenge, they had to work confidently (and quietly!) as a team, tackling some very tricky maths questions! They had to solve problems, answer quick-fire mental calculations and make links between the different areas of maths. Perhaps the trickiest round was the memory round, in which  two children had to memorise three very tricky diagrams (a venn diagram, a carroll diagram and a table), then explain the completed diagrams to the other two children who had to draw them! We also learnt what an icosahedron is...

The children were an absolute credit to the school and showed great mathematical ability. We are still finding out if we have qualified for the final in June, so fingers crossed!
