Elections

2nd October 2017

This week has been an exciting week for Year 6 as they completed the process of applying and voting for our 2017 – 2018 Head Boy, Head Girl and House Captains. In order to consider which position (or positions) they would like to apply for, they had to carefully read and understand each job description – it was just like applying for a ‘real’ job! Using the job description, the children then had to write a formal letter of application stating why they thought they were suitable for the position and what qualities they would bring to it.

We were incredibly impressed by the standard of applications we received, and just how much passion there is amongst Year 6 to support and promote their school.

Following the deadline, those who applied to be a House Captain then had to stand up in front of their peers in Year 6 to verbally explain why they wanted the position and why they were the right candidate.

Having been studying the origins of democracy in History and Citizenship lessons, Year 6 were very keen for the voting process to be as true to that we experience as adults, as it could be. They had ballot papers, a ballot box, and knew all about how important it was that the voting was a personal choice, not something to be shared with their friends. The counting of the votes was then completed by the Year 6 teaching team; the ballot box was not opened until we were all there so as to ensure there was no rigging of the election! The new four House Captains were announced in assembly this morning and can be clearly identified by their shiny new badges proudly displayed on their jumpers.

New for the 2017-2018 academic year are the positions of Head Boy and Head Girl. These applications were of an equally high standard, and the staff took a long time deliberating and debating over the merits of each candidate. The Head Boy and Head Girl will be relied upon to be the first ‘face’ of The Grove, welcoming new parents and families to our community and supporting both staff and children alike in the day-to-day running of the school. We are delighted to announce that our first-ever Head Girl is Cassidy and our first-ever Head Boy is Kodai.

HUGE congratulations go to all of Year 6 who acted so maturely and took great pride in this process; we couldn’t be more proud of all of you.
