At the end of Year 2, Teacher assessments show the proportion of pupils reaching the expected levels in Reading, Writing and Maths. Level 2 is the expected standard for most children when they leave Key Stage 1.  Level 3 is considered to be exceeding expectations. 

The SATs tests take place at the end of Year 6. They show the proportion of pupils reaching the expected levels in English and Maths. Level 4 is the expected standard for most children when they leave Primary School.  Level 5 is considered to be exceeding expectations. Pupils are expected to make two levels progress.

In addition to end of Key Stage Tests and Assessments, Year 1 are required to complete a Phonics Check in June. The Department of Education publish the pass mark for this annually after the testing week has passed.
